Friendzy Friday with Joanne!

I tried a new flower making technique a couple of weeks ago that I really liked so I thought I would share it with you in this simple tutorial.

Begin by taking a 1-1/2 x 12-inch strip of pattern paper.

Then use a scallop border punch along one long edge. You could also use scallop scissors or a trimmer that will give you a scalloped edge.

Turn your strip over and apply double-sided adhesive along the entire length of the paper.

Then, working on the right side, fold your paper every 1/4 - 1/2 inch and work it into a round shape. The adhesive will hold it in place as you go. You will have to experiment a bit with how much to 'round' it as you go, but you will want to finish with the ends meeting and overlapping slightly. You now have your flower! It is as simple as that.

Now all you have to do is add a button, brad or other embellishment to the center and you have a gorgeous flower for your next scrapbook page or card.

I used this technique to create flowers for a recent layout I did and I love how they match the look and feel of the page.

I hope you give this simple technique a try - it's fun and easy!

Holiday Card Doorhanger

We haven't made it to Halloween yet and already my thoughts are turning to the next big holiday........... Christmas. I've come up with a little project that will put your holiday cards out of the way and on display.

Supplies you'll need:

~Various raw chipboard shapes, anything will do: squares, circles, trees, snowflakes. I've used Fancy Pants. Depending on size, 3-5 shapes will work and you will need one smaller chipboard piece to anchor the bottom.
~Glossy accents, ink, stickles, glitter pen, glimmer mist, paint etc
~Holiday papers (I've used Fancy Pants Christmas Magic), rubons and embellishments
~coordinating wide shear ribbon

To assemble:

~Cover shapes in papers and embellishments.

~Use a cropodile to punch a hole top and bottom of each chipboard shape (on the small anchor piece punch a hole only on the top)
~Use a metal embellishment on the back of the anchor piece to weigh down the bottom

~Make a loop in your ribbon at the top and thread through holes leaving some ribbon exposed between each chipboard shape
TIP: tape the end of your ribbon so it looks like a shoelace, it will make it much easier to thread through the small holes

~Tie ribbon off at the top of the anchor piece of chipboard

Hang anywhere and use paperclips on the inside of your cards to attach to the ribbon

Make It & Take It This Saturday!

Halloween is fast approaching and we have a special project you won't want to miss. I was cruising around and was inspired by something that I saw on Jennifer McGuire's blog and I adapted it for Halloween.

Stop by this Saturday between 11am & 4pm and you will have the opportunity to make one for yourself or you can give it to someone special! You will wrap candy with paper, work with Bo Bunny's double dot cardsock, stamp and more.

This project will take about 15 minutes to make and the cost is only $2.50! Once you have the idea you can make more for family, friends, co-workers etc.....even adapt it for Christmas!

Hope you can join in the fun!

Beyond the Page with Kaisercraft!

We have received another shipment of these amazing 'beyond the page' projects from Kaisercraft. The first time we received them, we sold out before we could even put them in the store.

Karan has created samples and they are amazing. The projects come bare and you can decorate them with paint, mist, paper, etc.
Here is a sample of a decorated version. You can personalize it anyway you like.

The other project that we received is the 'Days til Christmas' countdown. This is such a great idea for counting down the days until Christmas.

The family tree is $14.99 and the Days til Christmas is only $9.99. Be sure to grab one before they disappear!

Altered Foam Thickers

For my tip/technique this week I thought I'd share a bit about altering foam Thickers.

First, gather your supplies. You will need: Foam Thickers, waxed paper, a background stamp, Versamark, an embossing gun.

Wet your stamp with the Versamark, this will keep it from sticking to the Thickers and ruining your stamp or the Thickers.

Place your desired letters onto waxed paper. This retains their stickiness while allowing you to work away from your finished project. Heat the Thickers until they begin to curl (sorry for the lousy picture but you get the idea). As you can see I practiced on an "x" first.

Immediately press your wet stamp into the letters, pressing firmly for a minute or so. If you do not like the result you can gently heat the letter and stamp it again.

You will notice your altered Thickers is slightly smaller than the original.

Here is the card I made using my altered Thickers and the Pagemap's sketch that TSF posted for the National Card Making Day challenge, along with a close up shot of the letters.

Trick Or Treat?

Halloween is fast approaching and our store is full of products to help you craft and preserve the precious memories that this season brings.......trick or treating, pumpkin carving etc.

One of the wonderful lines that we have in stock is the Trick or Treat line from Little Yellow Bicycle! There are double sided papers and lots and lots of embellishments that coordinate perfectly. There are also some cute projects like the Boo Banner and a spooky shaped mini chipboard album.

Here is a little inspiration that I pulled from the internet. Be sure to stop in and check this line out before it disappears.

Kit of the Week!

Going to the pumpkin patch is one of my favourite things about this time of year. My children are 17, 15 and 13 years old, but we still make a trip to pick out our pumpkins and run through the corn maze.

I am also lucky enough that I score a few photos too. Be sure to stop by this week and pick up your kit of the week and plan a trip to the pumpkin patch.

I am going to share it here with you today in this video.

Friendzy Friday with Patti!

Stamping 101

By Patti McCarthy

Gone are the days where stamps were just mounted on wooden blocks. Heavy shipping costs, consumption of available storage space in our scrap areas and more economical alternatives have turned some ‘stampers’ to using more acrylic/roller stamps for their scrapbooking creations. You can find small acrylic stamps for as low as $1.50 - $3.00 each.

50 Ways to use Stamps: (found on the internet)

1. Shade alphabet stamps to make your title on a strip of cardstock
2. Cut out the individual letters and pop dot them for an even jazzier title
3. Stamp directly on your photos
4. Get a personalized stamp with your return address for all your correspondence
5. Get a personalized stamp with “handmade by ____” to mark all your creations
6. Stamp a small image over and over again to make your own patterned paper
7. Try the above with Versamark ink for an even subtler background pattern
8. Stamp with acrylic paint
9. Use a phrase stamp on the inside of a card to make it even more professional-looking
10. Stamp lines in Versamark as a guide for straight handwritten journaling
11. Use an inkpad, without a stamp, directly on your paper to jazz up the edges
12. Stamp a flower and add a brad or eyelet for the center
13. Use small alphabet stamps to make captions for photos
14. Stamp a word on a tag to highlight the theme of your page
15. Stamp an image multiple times, color in and cut out the pieces to overlap and form your own paper piecing
16. Stamp an image and cut out, then pop dot or use on your page just like a sticker
17. Emboss your stamping for extra shine or the 3D effect
18. Use one set of stamps throughout an entire mini album to tie it all together
19. Use stamps to decorate the cover of a cloth album so that it coordinates with the theme of the pages inside
20. Practice stamping on scrap paper and use the result as a pretty bookmark
21. Use wheel stamps for handmade gift wrap
22. Use a wheel stamp to make patterned paper
23. Use a wheel stamp for a quick and easy border
24. Stamp on paperclay and punch a hole in the top to make your own charms
25. Stamp on a magnetic sheet and cut out for cute handmade magnets to give as a gift
26. Stamp an image in black ink and color it in
27. Stamp an image in clear ink and emboss in clear, then rub colored ink over the paper so that you get a reverse image
28. Stamp an image in black and use a sponge dipped in ink/pressed on the inkpad to color in the image – looks even better if you "don’t" stay inside the lines
29. Stamp in Versamark and dab chalk over the top for a softer image
30. You can also try stamping with chalk
31. Stamp a whole scene and mat it just like a photo
32. Overlap stamped images for a collage look
33. Use an alphabet stamp to make monogram patterned paper
34. Use word stamps to make interesting patterned paper
35. Try stamping your title with mismatched or different sizes of alphabet stamps for a funky/ransom note look
36. Customize your home décor by stamping on your walls
37. Stamp on fabric – aprons, dishtowels, tote bags, swatches for scrapbook pages, etc
38. Stamp the sides of a post-it note cube for a cute gift
39. Use stamps on your holiday cards – makes it easier to mass produce the same design over and over
40. Print business cards or address labels from your computer and stamp an image in the corner to jazz them up
41. Stamp off on scrap paper once before stamping so that the image is softer and you can read text through it
42. When making background paper, stamp two or three times before re-inking – you get even more ‘shades’ out of just one color this way
43. Use Staz-On ink to stamp on vellum or metal
44. Stamp on polyshrink and bake it to make your own plastic charms
45. Stamp on bottle caps for an even jazzier embellishment
46. Use a stamped image as the outline for creating a wire shape
47. Use a word stamp to stamp on ribbon or twill
48. Leave space in printed journaling to stamp a few words so that they stand out
49. Use stamps to fill in the smaller squares in a colorblocking page
50. Get non-toxic ink and stamp on yourself – makes a cool temporary tattoo! (kids love this one too).

Jennifer McGuire shows a couple of fantastic techniques using acrylic/clear stamps.

Check it out:

My favourite use for stamps is creating backgrounds on my pages/chipboard.

Stamps come in all sizes/shapes. Don't be intimated by them ~ embrace them and CREATE. Afterall, the skies the limit!
